Finally! I am really looking forward to March 2010 when we – the team at Villa Boreh, Jaganath Hardy Arndt and I – are organizing a retreat. This means that you come to Bali for at least ten days in order to rise to your challenges. We will hold individual counselling sessions and have put together a comprehensive yoga and meditation programme (suitable even for the complete beginner). We have also planned tours of Bali and look forward to spending an insightful time together that, most importantly, is all about enjoying life. Villa Boreh is a heavenly place designed by an architect who has made it his mission to landscape a completely organic, tropical garden. We also use a spa where the pure natural oils, aromatic substances, shampoos and soaps are all made in-house. For ten days we will escape the western world on the north coast of Bali.

All iPhone and Blackberry owners, please note: we have Internet access but no broadband – which means plenty of time for ourselves.

Anyone can take part who desires more order, more energy for everyday life and greater peace of mind, while enjoying a fun and entertaining break.

A dialog which a client from Switzerland has sent me, on the question, how you would describe my work (slightly shortened and name on request)

A: Have you not felt unsafe when your business idea took form, but, however, many open questions seemed to be like an unscalable mountain?
B: Of course, that’s everybody’s experience. You perceive your own weaknesses and deficits painfully because in the beginning you are completely on your own. But I had luck. A good friend, Thomas, told me incredible good things.

A: Like what?
B: Well, in his direct way he told me things like:” If you have not sketched your draught within 72 hours most keenly, you will never do it.” So he emphasized the importance of the motivation, the importance of being besotted with the own idea. This idea must be what you love, he said.

A: And have you draught the concept right away?
B: Of course! I have phrased the idea in only two, three sentences. And when it stood there thus written, I found it incredibly nice. More beautiful than it had been in my head. And Thomas had already provided the second, important aspect: Ideas must be summed up in a nutshell. A sentence which you can call out while cooking in the kitchen: Darling, by the way, I want to open a company which produces small, pink, little pigs, in which you throw coins for saving money.

A: That makes sense. You will find out the right way much easier when you formulate your own thoughts in one, two sentences. Or you notice, if something halts in the idea.
B: Yes, and these were only things which he brought up in the first conversation. Snatches to go for it.

A: What else did he say to your idea?
B: He helped me to see the still slightly chaotic idea from the free-enterprise point of view. The fact that a company begins, indeed, with the sensational, ideological idea, but then, however, also has to sell something and must offer a service. Otherwise the company is broken soon. This is similar as if someone produces a lot of pink, little pigs, but yet did not have the idea to put a slit on top and use it as a piggy bank. Thomas can provide the slit idea.

A: That sounds very helpful. The matter-of-fact view from outside. You yourself are something like the expert who knows the matter back to front, and Thomas as an outsider can recognize apparently very fast, how this idea can be moved in an economically applicable one. Then he is a kind of company foundation coach!

B: Exactly, he can understand foreign ideas absolutely well and then come up with a plan to realize them. But watch out - Thomas can be so persuasive with his results that you are tempted to leave him the whole developing work. Then suddenly you notice that you rather face Thomas’ company than your own. Don’t let the idea get out of your hand, just use Thomas as a think tank: He hears ideas, understands them, and brings them in a form in which they could function as a business. The more raw materials and forms, own ideas or possible application areas you can give to him, the better he can work out what suits best to you. So that you don’t get an iron horseshoe when you actually wanted to have a rose of copper.

A: So he does exactly what the professionally blinkered expert is doing rather badly – to break new ground, to fancy something new which hasn’t existed with this idea or this product yet.
B: Yes, and it’s helpful for him that he knows how business works. That’s why his support is helpful mainly for those people who have no economic education or experience.

A: Wow, this would be exactly the right thing for me! Indeed, I know all forms of plants, frogs and longicorns in the Swiss wood – but I don’t know how to earn money with the passion to do excursions and to collect field data.
B: There you are! Thomas would exactly be the right person. Transform passions into commercial ideas. Completely with ideas for the branding, so what the brand should show, with the possible marketing strategies and the solution for the customer. He turns the potential provider’s attention who wants to indulge, primarily, in his passion, to the perception and needs of the customer who, in the end, pays the bread rolls.

A: Wow. There he certainly chewed your concept over for hours!
B: That is just amazing: In no time at all he has already draught a draft concept. As how a good artist can visualize an idea in few pencil lines. Thomas has an unbelievable creativity for these things.

A: Great! When all these company’s founder, who he coaches, earn a lot of money one day, he would be able to earn a pretty penny.
B: There’s the rub. What he does doesn’t help the rich people, but the still poor people. He would probably have to ask a sort of shares in profits on later commercial profits. A small, but fixed interest in the profit, as soon as there would be one, throughout the first 10 years of the commercial existence.

A: That would be great! He would coach companies with ideologically valuable contents, which do not bring so much money, free of charge. Nevertheless, successful draughts would bring him a lot of money. So Thomas would be able to, so to speak, finance a social engagement cross. Of course if he gets not only ideologically valuable, but financially fruitless company foundations...
B: Yes, those like me…

A: Did your business idea not work out?
B: No, not yet. Otherwise I wouldn’t be here. Meanwhile I have taken a part-time job. You must have the courage to take the plunge into the project and into the freelance work. What Thomas can do, is to clear your wooly thoughts.

A: Your day may come. Let’s go over in the bar and drink a toast on our super ideas. And then we raise our glasses to Thomas from afar, may he still lend the strength of purpose to many indecisive passionate people to come to a passionate decision.
B: Cheers! This was probably the best of all your ideas today…
